Nepal expects to welcome 700,000 visitors via air during the year.[break]
Total arrivals in the month of February increased by 12.2 percent to 37,584 as compared to the arrival figures of same period last year. A total of 32,914 foreign tourists had entered the country in January.
According to Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, arrivals from India grew by a whopping 39.9 percent in February. Similarly, overall arrivals from the South Asia region increased by 31.8 percent.
Similarly, arrivals from Asia recorded positive growth of 2 percent in aggregate. Visitor arrivals from China increased by 2 percent, while arrivals from Japan (5.2 percent), South Korea (29.9 percent) and Thailand (39.6 percent) also recorded healthy increment.
European market observed a positive growth of 6.3 percent during the period.
Nepal is targeting to welcome one million visitors, including 300,000 from land routes, during 2011.
