MELAMCHI, June 17: The second phase works under Melamchi Drinking Water Project have begun. As part of this, the government has started pooling land that falls within the project coverage area.

KATHMANDU, June 17: The residents of Lakhatirtha in Dallu, Kathmandu, who had been suffering from the problem of drinking water shortage for nearly a decade, have taken a community-based initiative to resolve the problem. They formed a committee named Lakhatirtha Parishar Samiti (LPS) about six months ago, and after intense planning and multiple meetings, started distributing drinking water about two weeks ago from a public water tank built at the historical religious site.

RAUTAHAT, June 17: With the current fiscal year approaching its end, the local units in Rautahat district have intensified extraction of resources from the rivers in order to spend the development budget. Despite being aware about the rampant extraction of resources from the rivers, the authorities concerned have not taken any stringent action.

Water crisis worsens in Mugu towns

MUGU, June 17: There is an acute water crisis in several towns and villages of Mugu district. Locals of Bhamwada, Karkiwada, Kotila, Ghattakhel, Jhakot, Ryangchyakati, Lums, Kamfa, Ghat, and Runga, among other areas are struggling with the acute water shortage.

DAILEKH, June 17: Thatikath Drinking Water Project which was recently completed and was about to be inaugurated has been severely affected due to an ongoing mid hill highway road project in Thatikath Rural Municipality. Water pipes laid at Bisalla area of the rural municipality have all been damaged due to the road construction. Lack of coordination between the drinking water and road departments has been blamed for the fiasco.
