YCL cadres beat Hari Nepali at his duty station during a torch rally organized by the Maoists in Damauli, Tanahun on Friday evening.
Nepali was brought to Pokhara for treatment on Saturday morning after he could not be treated in Damauli Hospital. He has six stitches in his head and has returned to Damauli after treatment, the police said.
According to Tanahun Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Bishta, the YCL cadres attacked Nepali from behind with bamboo sticks while he was in a police beat.
On the other hand, the Maoists said the incident occurred after the policeman hurled abusive words at YCL cadres.
DSP Bishta said they could not identify the YCL cadres involved in the beating because it was dark. “It´s been learnt that they attacked him from behind,” Bishta said, adding, “We´ve informed the Maoists about it.”
