KATHMANDU, April 19: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said on Thursday the political parties will make history on the constitution writing front in the next five days.

Talking over the phone with district leaders and civil society members of Panchthar, the UML chairman said the parties have already informally agreed on the mixed electoral system and the rest disputed issues will be sorted out before April 23, when Constituent Assembly (CA) convenes. [break]

Khanal spoke to UML Panchthar secretary Prem Prasad Rijal, Nepali Congress district president Narendra Kerung, civil society members Prem Ojha and Anju Lama, among others.

During the conversation, the district representatives showed their concerns about the lack of consensus at this last hour on resolving the contentious issues and expressed their doubt if the new constitution will fully accommodate  the people’s aspirations.

They also expressed their hope that, with the army integration process already being kicked off, the peace process will soon come to its end.

Over the past several days, Khanal has been holding telephonic conversation from his residence Dall to local leaders and civil society members of various districts to learn of the public opinion on the ongoing peace and constitution writing processes.
