Chief of the election office Ghanshyam Bhandari said the voter registration process is being carried out till 8 pm for the past few days as the number of locals visiting the office for voter registration has increased considerably. Bhandari said the office has been registering voters even on Saturday.
“Everyday, more than 600 locals are registered on the voter list,” he informed. [break]
“I am have been queuing for the last two hours,” said Madan Raj Pandey, who was waiting for his turn for voter registration.
The Election Commission had notified locals about the deadline, which is ending after two days, through SMSes. Likewise, local FM stations have also been airing public notice frequently, said Bhandari.
“Local political parties have also been carrying out door-to-door campaigns, which has given momentum to the voter registration campaign,” added he.
He said the number of locals coming to register their name lately has gone up since the campaign began two months ago.
According to the election office, only 8,000 locals had registered during the campaign from April 26 to May 23 in the VDCs and municipalities of the district. “But now, locals are coming to Pokhara to register their names in the voter list,” said Bhandari.
As many as 195,000 people had already registered their name on the voter list by Saturday in Kaski. The number of voters in the district may exceed over 200,000 by Monday, said DEO officials.
