USA shatters Nepal's hopes

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: United States of America (USA) defeated Nepal by 55 runs virtually qualifying for the finals and ending Nepal´s hopes of promotion from Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 4 at Pianoro, Italy on Thursday.



Chasing 203/8, Nepal were bowled out for 148 in 49.3 overs.[break]



Apart from Paras Khadka (44) and Gyanendra Malla (34), the Nepali batsmen failed to show the competence to cope with US bowling.



Earlier, Nepal had restricted USA for 203/8 in 50 overs in a crucial match.



Electing to bat first, USA lost its first wicket in the second ball and despite some good batting display, Nepali spinners restricted them to an achievable total.[break]



Amrit Bhattarai, Basant Regmi and Sharad Vesawkar took two wickets each while Binod Das and Rahul Biswokarma claimed a wicket each.



Man of the match Sushil Nadkarni topscored for USA scoring a half-century (64). Lennox Cush (32), Steve Massiah (29), Carl Wright (16), Mohd Ghous (15) and Usman Shuja (11) scored runs for USA.
