KATHMANDU, Sept 23: A meeting of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Friday took strong exception to the remarks made by leaders from UCPN (Maoist) and other political parties on the four-point deal between the UDMF and UCPN (Maoist).

“We urged leaders from other parties to not make such irresponsible statements. The way the leaders have spit venom only demonstrates their intellectual bankruptcy,” Chairman of Sadbhavana Party and Health Minister Rajendra Mahato told Republica.[break]

Maoist Secretary CP Gajurel and other leaders from the hard-line faction of the ruling party have said that the four-point is against the national interest and contravenes the party´s policy. Other parties, including the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, among others, have also criticized the deal.

Stating that it was irresponsible of the leaders to make such statements, Mahato claimed the deal between the UDMF and UCPN (Maoist) was need of the hour.

“While other coalitions wasted over three years by not accomplishing the major tasks of writing the new constitution and concluding the peace process, we signed the deal in our bid to make maximum utilization of the remaining three months,” said Mahato.

He said the remarks made by other political parties have hurt the sentiments of the Madhes-based parties and the Madhesi people in general.
