KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Protesting higher secondary school teachers and the government during talks Saturday agreed to form a task force for implementing the Chaitanya report.

The two sides, however, could not reach agreement on other demands of the teachers and will continue talks Sunday. The teachers said the high secondary schools will remain closed until their demands are met.

President of the Teachers´ Association of Higher Secondary Education Schools (TAHSES) Surendra Thapa told myrepublica.com, “We have agreed to form a task force consisting representatives of the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), Ministry of Education, Department of Education, Higher Secondary Schools Association - Nepal (HISSAN) and TAHSES for implementing the Chaitanya report.”

A government-formed commission headed by educationist Chaitanya Sharma last year had made recommendations on salaries and perks for teachers in private, institutional and community schools.

The talks were held at the High School Council at Thimi, Bhaktapur.
