APF, LA in final
Defending champions Armed Police Force (APF) and Little Angels (LA) set up the title clash on Thursday in the 15th Father Moran Memorial Primary School-level Invitational Football Tournament winning their respective semifinal matches.
Govinda Gurung´s additional time goal sealed APF a place for final after the regulation time had ended in 1-1 tie against hosts St Xavier´s. Dinesh Shahi had put APF ahead but Rajkumar Ghale hit back an equalizer before the fate of finalists was decided in extra time.
In another match, LA eased past St Xavier´s 3-0. Milan Ghale scored twice for the winning side and Paras Bohara added another.
Thapa wins title
Tanahun´s Candidate Master Uttamraj Thapa on Thursday won the title of the Lord Buddha Cup Chess Tournament held in Butwal, Rupandehi. Thapa accumulated eight points from the 10-round tournament to secure first position. FIDE Master Manish Hamal who had scored equal eight points--points scored, progressive and cuts points--had to settle for second position after losing the toss. Rajan Puri of Boys Union Club finished third with 7.5 points while U-15 national champion Rupesh Jaiswal came fourth with seven points. Prakash Nepal, Raju Subedi and Niraj Niraula secured fifth to seventh positions respectively while Keshav Prasad Gautam, Dirgharaj Joshi and Deepak Maharjan finished eighth to tenth respectively with six points apiece.
