“We only needed approval from the ministry and it was passed by the cabinet meeting today,” said Minister for Youth and Sports Gopal Tiwari Nepali. “Though the date for the Games will be fixed later, we have planned to hold it from February 19."
No decision has been made regarding the budget for the Games yet.
“Though the government had allocated 250 million rupees to conduct the Fifth National Games, we will not ask as much this time as the present situation is different and the government is also not in the condition to dole out such a huge amount. We will try to complete the Games with a budget of 160 million rupees,” Tiwari stated.
The fifth edition of the National Games was held in the capital from April 6, 2009 after a decade. The week-long National Games featured 32 different events. NSC then had decided to hold the sixth edition of the event in Dhangadhi during the closing ceremony.
Altogether nine teams, including five regional teams, three departmental teams - Nepali Police, APF and Army - and PLA Sports Club of Maoist combatants participated in the Games. Central Region had bagged the first position in the event.
