KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Senior politician Shree Bhandra Sharma, 83, passed away Wednesday afternoon in Kathmandu.
Sharma, who originally hailed from Simpani of Tanahun district, began his political career as student leader during the Jayatu Sanskritam Movement in 1947.

He was general secretary of the Nepali Congress for some time but later lent his support to the Panchayat system. As an independent politician, he advocated a return to multiparty democracy after the king took over power in 2005.
Sharma´s body is to be kept at the Nepali Congress central office at Sanepa for an hour till 7 pm for those who wish to pay their last respects.
He will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat later in the evening.
Sharma is survived by a son and two daughters.
