In a meeting held at the invitation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at his residence at Baluwatar on Sunday evening, the parties reached the conclusion in the wake of the “Maoists´ untrustworthy behavior and action”. [break]
A participant in the meeting told myrepublica.com that the parties took note of media reports about Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal directing his party combatants at the Maoists´ Second Division at Shaktikhor in Chitwan for preparations for a “fresh revolt”.
During an orientation at Shaktikhor on March 1, Dahal had reportedly told the combatants that time was nearing to go for a revolt to “seize state power” and bring security agencies including the army under the party´s complete control. He also claimed that he had “influenced” UNMIN to further the party´s interests, dragging the UNMIN into controversy once again.
The parties have agreed to give a message of unity among the coalition partners to remove confusions created by the Maoists´ claim that a national government under the Maoists´ leadership was in the offing. “The parties have concluded that the Maoists are bent on seizing power by hook or crook,” said a Nepali Congress leader present in the meeting.
He said, “The meeting unequivocally agreed that there was no alternative to the present government.”
Prime Minister Nepal, UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, NC leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba, Sushil Koirala and Bimalendra Nidhi, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati SJB Rana, Rastriya Janashakti Party Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) Chairman and Deputy PM Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur, CPN (ML) Chairman CP Mainali and Sadbhawana Party President Rajendra Mahato were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the ruling parties also alleged that the Maoists were not sincere about drafting the constitution and the management of their combatants because of their vested interests.
