SINDHUPALCHOK, Jan 9: A Dalit girl, who was sold to an Indian brothel at the age of 13 by her own relatives, might have thought her bad days were over when she was rescued after three years of forced prostitution. But destiny had other idea.

The 18-year-old, named as Chautara-K by police, has been sold for the second time. What is surprising is that she was sold by a trafficking victim like her.[break]

Chautara-K was sold to an Indian brother by her uncle and cousin five years ago. She was rescued and brought to Nepal by Shakti Samuha, a non-government organization, three years ago. Less than six months after she got united with her family members, Chautara-K was sold again by a girl whom she met during counseling at Shakti Samuha.

According to the victim´s brother Hom Mijar, Dhana Maya Tamang has confessed to the police that she left Chautara-K in Mumbai after luring her to the Indian city in November, promising good job.

Police had arrested Dhana Maya from Pyutar-4 in Lalitpur on December 12.

Chautara-K came across Dhana Maya during counseling session at Shakti Samuha. As both of them were trafficking victims, they soon became friends. The two were in touch even after leaving Shakti Samuha.

All of a sudden, Chautara-K, who used to call her family members frequently, went out of contact. She had last contacted her family members on November 3. The victim´s family then came to Kathmandu and on November 10 filed a case against Dhana Maya.

“I took my sister out from Shakti Samuha´s shelter as she wanted to do something on her own,” Mijar said, adding that his sister was working at a Bouddha eatery before she went out of contact. “She lured my sister, promising her better job,”

Dhana Maya has told police that she took Chautara-K to Mumbai via Kakarbhitta entry point.

Chautara-K was sold for the first time by her uncle Ram Chandra Sarki and his son Subash in the first week of December 2007. She was about to get married on December 14. She went missing just before the wedding procession reached her home.

She was rescued by Shakti Samuha in 2010. After she was brought to Nepal, she had filed complaint against three people, including her uncle Ram Chandra Sarki. Though Ram Chandra is behind the bars, other accused, Raju Tamang and Subash Karki, are still at large.
