The couple had tied the knot 12 years ago after having falling in love with each other. Rekha was only 16 years of age at the time of her marriage while her husband was already 36. The two are said to have met after Chhabi came across her portfolio and wanted to cast her for his movie Heroine. She, however, wasn’t cast in the movie.
Chhabi is film producer, with Rajesh Hamal’s debut film Yugdekhi Yugsamma (1992) to his credit. Rekha is one of the most popular actresses in Nepali cinema and has also produced mainstream Nepali movies. Himmat, Mitini, Kismat, Kasle Choryo Mero Maan are some of the movies enacted by Rekha.
Rekha has previously been quoted saying the couple had issues due to their age gap. Their divorce rumors have been doing the rounds for quite some time now.
“This is a trial period for us and are going to work things out together,” said the couple together in a telephonic interview. The couple had been living separately since nine months but is now “living in the same house.”
