KATHMANDU, March 5: Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal on Thursday said that the issue of army recruitment that has dominated domestic politics of late would be resolved "within one or two days".[break]

“The issue now seems like a dispute, but it will be solved within a day or two,” PM Dahal said while addressing the 11th National Conference of Nepal Bar Association in Kathmandu.

Dahal, who also heads the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC), said the AISC would decide the issue after holding a meeting. “I believe both armies will follow the decision,” he added.

The Maoist chairman fell short of saying what was right or wrong about the recent recruitment in the Nepal Army and ongoing recruitment in the Maoist People´s Liberation Army. “The case is under the Supreme Court’s consideration, so I should not say which side did wrong and which side did right.”

Reiterating his party’s commitment to multi-party democracy, the rule of law, human rights and press freedom, the prime minister urged political parties not to doubt his party’s intentions on the basis of the draft constitution it released recently. The draft proposes to ban certain political parties if they support autocracy.

“It is just an initial draft for discussion,” he said.
