KATHMANDU, Aug 19: A meeting of 13 smaller political parties has decided that the prime ministerial candidacy should be withdrawn only after the three major political parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML -- reach an agreement on new government leadership, power sharing, constitution drafting and concluding the peace process.

The parties have asked the three parties to reach a consensus on accomplishing the remaining tasks of the peace process, pledge to resume the stalled constitution-drafting process at the earliest and reach an understanding on power sharing and leadership of the new government.[break]

"The candidacy of the two prime ministerial candidates can be withdrawn only after accomplishing the aforementioned three tasks," a statement issued after the meeting said. The meeting was held at Constituent Assembly (CA) building in Baneshwar on Thursday.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel are in the prime ministerial race.
