Koirala said the president is the one who needs to take an initiative to end the ongoing deadlock. "The president is the protector of the constitution and he needs to take steps to end this crisis," Koirala told reporters while emerging from the president´s office.
They also discussed the deteriorating security situation in Dailekh. According to Koirala, the head of state also expressed his serious concern as the political parties have been moving toward confrontation.
"The leaders had committed at the last meeting [at the president´s office] to forge consensus by end of this month. But it is worrying that the same leaders have been indulging in confrontation," Koirala quoted the president as saying.
After the eighth extension of the deadline given by him to the political parties to find a consensus prime ministerial candidate, the president without fixing any specific timeline had two weeks ago urged the political parties to reach an agreement at the earliest.
The president has resumed consultations at a time when both the ruling as well as opposition parties have stopped holding talks and announced protests.
