KATHMANDU, July 8: Fringe parties representing the parliament have requested the government to correct the ‘discrimination between lawmakers directly-elected and those chosen through proportional electoral system’.
A meeting of lawmakers from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN-ML, Rastriya Janamorcha, Pariwar Dal, Tharuhat Tarai Party and Rastriya Khumbuwam Morcha among others asked to the correct the ‘discrimination’ in the Constituency Development Fund, informed CPN-ML lawmaker Ayendra Sundar Nembang.

The government in the current fiscal budget had allocated Rs 10 million for directly-elected lawmakers through the fund.
The meeting of the fringe parties drew the attention of the government to provide the amount also to those elected through proportional system through the upcoming budget.
“Those garnering 8,000 votes got elected through first-past-the-post system,” lawmaker Ram Kumar Khusbu said, “The government has discriminated lawmakers receiving 25,000 votes.”
Few days earlier, directly-elected lawmakers had launched a signature campaign and submitted their signatures to Minister for Finance Ram Sharan Mahat to allocate Rs 50 million to each of them through the fund.
