Power disruption halts newspapers in farwest

MAHENDRANAGAR, Dec 30: Newspaper publication has been halted in the farwestern region of the country except in Kanchanpur due to power disruption caused by students´ protest.



Eleven daily newspapers from Kailali and three from Dadeldura could not be published due to th disruption.



The power disruption was caused after three student unions locked up the Lalpur substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority on Monday for an "indefinite" period disrupting a 132 kv transmission line.

The unions are protesting the prolonged load shedding. They are demanding that power needs of the farwestern region be met before supplying the seventy million units of electricity generated from Tanakpur project to the national grid.



The Lalpur substation was feeding electricity from Tanakpur project to the national grid through Lamahi substation in Dang.
