BAGLUNG, May 2: Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti on Thursday said that the election date will not go beyond mid-November. He also urged the people not to doubt EC´s ability to conduct the polls.

Speaking at a function in Baglung, Uprety said, “Despite speedy preparations, we have not announced the poll date. But rest assured the date will be announced soon.” He also urged the political parties to create an environment conducive to election. [break]

Hinting at parties opposing the polls, he said, “We are technically prepared to hold election so I also urge the parties to remain prepared for polls.

” Stating that only fresh election can bail the country out of the impasse, he urged the parties to forge consensus on the issue of election. “We will announce the poll date as soon as the parties forge consensus,” he said.

He also informed that voters living in foreign countries would not be able to cast their votes in the upcoming election as the EC does not have adequate time to make necessary arrangements.

Uprety claimed that local elections would be held within a year after the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Speaking at the same function EC Secretary Narayan Gopal Malego informed about preparations being made for election. He also said that EC is currently carrying out voter registration in 44 districts.
