TULASIPUR (DANG), Dec 23: The police are still clueless about those behind the robbery in the Tulasipur branch of Bank of Kathmandu. Even though they interrogated bank staffers and security guards till late Friday night, the police have failed to find any lead into the robbery.
Three unidentified people, who entered the bank posing as customers, had looted more than Rs 20 million from the bank on Friday evening. [break]
As they had turned all CCTV cameras to the floor, none of the robbers were captured in the footage. They had also disrupted computer system set up to monitor the CCTV feeds before robbing the bank.
According to the police, the robbers had stayed in the bank for a long time pretending to fill out vouchers before taking guns out of their bags. They locked security guards, branch manager and cashiers in a room before looting the bank.
As the robbers chose to strike when the bank was about to close the evening counter, the locals came to know about the incident much later. It was only after two hours, when the manager´s wife came to the bank that the police could be informed about the robbery.
Although the police suspect that somebody within the bank might be involved in the heist, no one has been arrested till Saturday. The police say they have intensified investigation into the robbery.
BoK has also sent a probe team, including system experts and technicians, to Tulasipur to assist the police in the investigation and also assess the lapses in the branch´s security system.
“The team is headed by our officer who looks after our security system,” said Ajay Shrestha, CEO of the bank. The team has already reached Dang, said Shrestha, adding that the bank officials will team up with the police and support them in the investigation.
“Hopefully, we will have a detailed report on the incident by Sunday,” said Shrestha. He did not elaborate further on the case as the police investigation is still underway and culprits are yet to be traced.
Shrestha has ruled out the possibility of involvement of bank staffers in the robbery. “I am sure that the bank staffers were not involved,” he said.
