POKHARA, Jan 10: Hotels and restaurants, which had remained closed for four days in the tourist city of Pokhara, opened from Saturday afternoon.

Entrepreneurs opened their hotels and restaurants at about 4 pm after a Maoist-affiliated workers´ union undid the padlocks at the offices of local hotel and restaurant organizations and the Pokhara Tourist Council late Sunday evening. [break]

The workers´ union had padlocked the offices of the Tourist Council including all those related to hotels and restaurants to press for minimum wages as provisioned by the government.

The entrepreneurs had demanded that the padlocks be opened as a pre-condition for negotiating with the workers.

"With the hotels and restaurants opened, negotiations with the workers´ union will start soon," said chairman of the Tourist Council, Bacchuram Tiwari.
