Police have identified the deceased as Tek Bahadur Tapali, station manager of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Humla.
According to Humla police, the helicopter (IV-IEW) had crashed at around 4:35 pm while it was returning to the district headquarters Simikot from Hilsa. “The helicopter had tried to make an emergency landing on the bank of Karnali River,” said District Superintendent of Police Bijaya Thapa. [break]
The accident site is located 35 km north-west of Simkot.
The injured have been identified as the helicopter pilot David Talu, an Italian national, flight manager Dilak Shrestha, Goma Airlines pilot Prajwal Bhattarai, co-pilot Yadi Sherpa, and Gobinda Lama. All the injured have been airlifted to Simkot.
“Heavy rains had made rescue difficult,” said DSP Thapa, adding, “The injured will be airlifted to Kathmandu after the weather conditions improve.”
