KATHMANDU, July 13: UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said on Saturday that leaders from major political parties are preparing to hold decisive talks with dissident political groups -- including the CPN-Maoist -- that have announced to boycott elections scheduled for November 19.

“Now the talks to be held with the dissident political parties will be decisive and they [dissident groups] must make their positions clear,” Sapkota told media persons at his party office at Koteshwar on Saturday. “Now the country can´t afford to waste time.” [break]

He said other parties may show flexibility on some other conditions if the CPN-Maoist, among other dissident political groups, express readiness to participate in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections to be conducted by the Khil Raj Regmi led government.

“The present cabinet can be expanded and the high-level political committee can be restructured if the dissident parties agree to participate in the elections,” he said. “But the November 19 polls will not be postponed.”

He also maintained that the present government will lose its relevance if the CA election is not held on November 19. “The present government of bureaucrats shouldn´t be allowed to prolong its life. Such a move will only complicate the situation further,” he said.

Stating that the failure to conduct polls in November would invite a serious crisis in the country, Sapkota also urged the major political parties to intensify their election campaigns.

CPN-Maoist, which is the breakaway faction of the UCPN (Maoist), Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party and some other fringe parties have announced to boycott polls to be conducted by the present bureaucratic government.

The CPN-Maoist has demanded dissolution of the present interim government and the High Level Political Committee, which is represented by four major political parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front.
