KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, who heads a caretaker government, has said that it is unlikely the parliament will elect a new prime minister through the sixth round of vote on September 5 unless there is a miracle.

He said the parties need to reach an agreement on the issues of peace process and constitution-writing instead of being totally engaged in electing a prime minister. [break]

The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a gathering of CPN-UML cadres at Gothathar in Bhaktapur on Saturday, according to a statement issued by his press advisor Bishnu Rijal.

He claimed that reruns of prime ministerial elections failed to elect new prime minister as the political leaders are too much obsessed with attaining the top executive post instead of doing something new after assuming the office.

He said the proposal put forth by the UML was prepared with a sincere intention to develop a common view among the major parties for ending the ongoing deadlock. "Don´t take it as one more document that the party prepared just as a ladder to reach to the power," the statement quoted him as saying.

He accused the Maoist leadership of not willing for integration and management of Maoist combatants and trying to create an organization parallel to the Nepal Army (NA). "Such motives of the Maoists have fueled further mistrust toward them. Therefore they need to get rid of military mindset," he added.

He urged the UCPN (Maoist) to make public the party´s view on religious or cultural monarchy saying the recent activities of the former royalties had a connection with Maoist leadership.

Nepal said there are suspicions that Maoists might be for reinstating the monarchy with cultural role. Saying that Maoists, who claim themselves to be anti-feudal and revolutionaries, were indirectly trying to retain the monarchy he urged party members of all ranks to remain cautious over the Maoist duplicity.
