KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Nepali students at KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) University in Odisha, India, have yet to return. The university witnessed a tense situation after the suspicious death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal.
Although the situation is gradually getting back to normal, the majority of Nepali students have not returned, a student there said. "Only around 30 to 35 Nepali students have come back to the university hostel. They are still yet to return," said a student asking not to be named.
The college environment remains normal, according to the student. "Everything is functioning smoothly and we haven't faced any difficulties," the student added.
On Wednesday, authorities evacuated 95 students from Odisha and they returned home through the Birgunj border in Parsa. The group included 76 male and 19 female students.
Most of the returning students who arrived home said they need justice and security.
On February 16, authorities found Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal dead inside the hostel. Her friends claim that she committed suicide after she was harassed by a male friend.
After students protested demanding justice, the university directed Nepali students to return to Nepal. Following widespread protests, the university requested the students to leave.
