“Senior officials from both the sides will discuss some new issues while continuing to focus on agendas forwarded in the past meetings,” said Energy Secretary Shankar Koirala, adding, “We will put optimum efforts to finalize the pending issues.” He informed that the talk will be focused on expediting the study on Sunkoshi and Saptakoshi high dam. “Issues related to inundation in the Tarai districts and erosion are also on the top agenda.”
According to Koirala, the officials will also discuss problems created by rivers in areas on the border. Engineer Mathura Dangol from the Ministry of Irrigation said that they will also discuss implementation of Mahakali treaty, Pancheshwar Multi-purpose project, repair of Tanakpur Dam, extension of Tanakpur-Mahendranagr linkroad, and on the irrigation system in Chandani-Dodhara area.
“The officials will also review the work progress on Saptakoshi high dam.” The Nepali team is led by Koirala and the Indian team is headed by his counterpart Water Resource Secretary Umesh Narayan Panjiyar.
