With the convention nearing close (from Sept. 17 to 21), Congress leaders maintain that it will focus on institutionalizing federal democratic republic and the peace process for the sake of promulgation of the new constitution on time. [break]
While the slogan of the 11th General Convention was ending autocratic monarchy and restoration of democracy, this time, Congress leaders say, the conference work for the completion of the peace process and constitution-drafting and institutionalization of republic.
As many as 3,100 representatives are taking part in the convention to be held in Kathmandu. Congress is working on war footing for the preparation of the gathering.
As part of it, NC-affiliated Nepal Press Union organized a press meet at the party headquarters in Sanepa Monday.
Speaking in the function, NC Acting President Sushil Koirala said the convention will be the symbol of party unity.
The conference will be for lasting peace, institutionalization of republic and constitution-drafting, Koirala said. "Congress will not compromise on democracy," he said, urging the Unified CPN (Maoist) to implement the agreements signed in the past.
Similarly, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the upcoming convention will not only be a colorful event, but will be the gathering of peace, democracy, and unity. By holding district convention recently, Congress has showed an example of democratic exercise, he said.
On the occasion, coordinator of convention promotion committee and NC central member Krishna Sitaula informed that promotion for the convention is going on in district level. He expressed hope that the convention will help institutionalise peace, and will be the gathering of unity.
He also urged journalists to help for the promotion, and effective management of the convention.
NPU Chairman Sammir Jung Shah said the convention is being watched with great curiosity at home and abroad.
Senior journalist Tara Nath Dahal urged the party leadership to be clear on what to promote and how to promote.
Former NPU Chairman Ramesh Tuphan stressed on the need for formation of an effective mechanism for the promotion of the convention.
