KATHMANDU, April 16: A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has arrived in Kathmandu for a series of meetings with government officials and US embassy officials and civil society leaders.

This is MCC’s first visit to Nepal since the announcement in December that Nepal was selected as eligible to develop a Threshold Program, which has a stated objective of assisting a country in becoming eligible for the MCC’s large assistance programs, called compacts, by supporting targeted policy and institutional reforms through a country-specific program. The delegation is led by James Parks, who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal from 1982 to 1984.

During the visit, the MCC’s senior leadership will introduce the MCC and the Threshold Program to the Nepal government, civil society groups, and donor organizations, and will gain background information about the economic issues facing Nepal, the US embassy in Kathmandu said in press statement on Monday.
