KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has decided to take various development programs to the Tarai.
A meeting of the party’s secretariat, held at prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Sunday, decided to form various committees to take development programs to the Tarai.
Tarai-Madhes Prosperity Program implemented
“Party’s next secretariat meeting will formulate programs to address Tarai issues,” said party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.
The meeting decided to hold separate talks with various ethnic groups including Tharus in the Terai before formulating the programs.
The Maoist leadership has come under heavy criticism from Maoists in the Tarai for the party’s failure to address Tarai issues and not making the party inclusive in terms of giving senior leadership positions to Maoists from the Tarai.
In view of an allegation by Madhesi leaders that the party leadership is sidelining Madhesi leader Matrika Yadav, the secretariat meeting has decided to talk to Yadav once he returns from China.
