Lissanevitch, Karki claim U-16 titles

KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Ivan Ho Lissanevitch of The British School and Bibhuti Karki of St Xavier´s claimed the boy´s and girl´s U-16 singles titles respectively of the Sixth LA\JTI Inter-school Junior Open Tennis Tournament being held at the tennis court of Little Angels on Saturday.



Lissanevitch recorded a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win over Yeoram Lee of KISC in the title clash, while Karki overcame her school mate Manjita Nyachhon of St Xavier´s in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. [break]



Pranab Khanal of St Xavier´s edged past Samyak Bhusan Bajracharya of Shuvatara for a final spot in U-12 boy´s singles category. Bajracharya recorded 8-4 win over Samyak Bhusan to fix the final with his elder brother Samrakshyan to be held on Saturday.



Meanwhile, Riyasha Baidhya claimed U-10 girl´s singles title. Baidhya saw off Alsa Regmi of Kasthamandap 8-4. Similarly, Avilasha Bista of St Xavier´s took home U-9 singles title defeating Nima Rokaya of host LA 10-4, 10-3. Boy´s title of the same age group went to Adit Subedi of St Xavier´s who saw off Sushant Kuikel of Grand Academy in identical sets 10-4, 10-4.



Avay Gauchan and Avash Malla´s pair of Rato Bangala and Tshering Sherpa and Ayusha Rai´s pair of host LA claimed U-14 boy´s and girl´s doubles title respectively. Gauchan and Malla´s pair were off to an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Bipin Thapa and Sandesh Paudel´s pair of host LA. Similarly, Sherpa and Rai´s team outplayed Diwa Rana and Shiwangi Singh´s pair of same team 6-2, 6-3.



Anne Mathema clinched U-12 girl´s singles title with 9-7 win over Mayanka Rana of Rupy´s International.



Meanwhile, Ganesh Karki of National Tennis Center will play against U-16 title winner Ivan Ho Lissnevitch in the final of U-18 boy´s singles category on Saturday while Ganga Sharma of Mahendra Higher Secondary School will lock horn against Manjita Nyachhon, U-16 champion for the title of same age category.



Similarly, Bibhuti Karki of Rupy´s will vie for the title with Mahika Rana of same school. Altogether six gold medals will be decided on Saturday, the last day of the tournament.
