The commission is headed by the Prime Minister and works as an apex body for formulating appropriate policy for the development of ICT sector in the country.

The meeting of parliamentary committee on development held on Monday is preparing to summon officials concerned to seek clarification on the decision of MoST. Committee president Jitendra Sonar said, "The decision of MoST is not justified and we will be calling officials of the ministry before instructing anything."

Officials of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) submitted a memorandum to Minister of Science and Technology Kalpana Dhamala, saying that the decision to dissolve the commission is a regressive move. Suresh K. Karna, CAN president, said, "HLCIT is a must as it works at the policy-making level."

He further said that other departments like IT Department or IT Advisory Council can´t substitute for HLCIT.

MoST plans to form IT Advisory Council after dissolving HLCIT.
