KATHMANDU, Oct 9: After almost a decade on the scene, the Indian band Kryptos have become a force to be reckoned with. Formed in 1998 with Nolan Lewis on guitar and vocal, Rohit Chaturvedi, also on guitar, Jayawant Tewari on bass, and Ryan Colaco on drums, the band has become a headliner in the Indian underground metal scene.

With two critically acclaimed albums – Spiral Ascent and The Ark of Gemini – under their name, and further working on their next album, Kryptos has been the spearhead of the steady rise of heavy metal in India. [break]

Citing influences of metal greats such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden, along with Kreator, Nevermore, and Coroner, the band has a distinctive sound belonging to none but themselves.

Further, Kryptos have performed at over three hundred gigs and concerts in India, most notably supporting and opening for their influence, Iron Maiden, at Rock ’n India 2009 in Bangalore. The band members have also been endorsed by Mapex Drums and ESP Guitars.

After embarking on a European Tour earlier this year, and performing for crowds in Germany and Switzerland, among other countries, the boys are here in Nepal to perform for the underground audience.

The KEC band competition, organized by Kathmandu Engineering College on Saturday, October 8, is to play host to the band, who will be performing as the guest band at the event.

The competition is to start from noon on Saturday, October 9.
