KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The newly-appointed chief of Nepal Police, Ramesh Chanda Thakuri, officially assumed his post on Tuesday. The new police chief was honored and welcomed at a special function organized at the Nepal Police Headquarters in the afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, Home Secretary Dr. Gobinda Kusum had presented the insignia to Thakuri at a program organized at the Home Ministry.

Speaking on the occasion, Thakuri said he would work on strengthening the police organization. He also announced he would take initiatives to provide more facilities to police personnel.

“There is a need for specialized training for police personnel, and amendment in existing police legislation,” he said.

Thakuri said he would work towards improving the law and order situation and make ordinary people feel more secure.
