A cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal´s official residence at Baluwatar on Saturday morning decided to set up the bank to address the energy crisis facing the country in recent years, said Minister for Education Ganga Lal Tuladhar, who is also the government spokesperson. The meeting also decided to transfer 17 joint-secretaries, establish foundations in the names of Krishna Sen ´Ikchhuk´, Netra Lal ´Abhagi´ and Jeeva Lal Ashrit, and provide Rs 5 million to each of them.
Similarly, the meeting decided to return Rs 3.6 million taken from 522 Muslim pilgrims. The pilgrims had paid the money to the government as visa fees while visiting the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia this year.
Likewise, the meeting decided to appoint Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota as vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC). "The government will formally appoint Devkota to the coveted post on Sunday," said Tuladhar after the meeting.
Devkota has been working as NPC acting vice-chairman following the resignation of then vice-chairman Jagadish Chandra Pokharel. Pokharel´s resignation was approved by the government on March 13, 2011.
