The DoE would be providing Rs 1,680,000 to the schools which are running classes from grade one to five. Similarly, the lower secondary schools would receive 189,000 to the lower secondary schools whereas the secondary level schools would receive Rs 245,000. [break]
As per the directive on regulating religious schools issued last year, the primary schools must have at least 25 students to be eligible for the grant. However, the lower secondary and secondary schools with 20 and 15 students, respectively, would be qualified for the funding.
The government´s flash report 2012/13 shows that 0ut of the total 34,782 schools, 818 are religious schools. Madrasa, Gumba/Vihar and Ashram/Gurukul are the religious schools opened by Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus, respectively.
Meanwhile, the DoE has also instructed the flood and landslide affected schools to send the report of the loss. Eighteen District Education Offices (DEO) have been asked to send the report of damage caused by natural calamities.
The flood and landslide resulting from heavy rainfall this year has damaged infrastructures of community schools in Mustang, Dolpa, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Bardiya, Dailekh, Kailali, Doti, Achham, Palpa, Bajhang, Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Sirha and Rupandehi.
The DoE´s Senior Divisional Engineer Jhappar Kumar Singh mentioned that the education offices have been directed to send an initial estimation of the amount required to repair the damage.
Likewise, the Physical Infrastructure Management Division of the DOE has also sought the name of schools, number of students studying there, including the disabled students. Engineer Singh said that his section specifically demanded that the schools that need full or partial repair to avoid the corruption at local level while carrying out the reconstruction. The detail of classrooms and academic material has also been sought from the DEOs.
Of the total schools, 34,298 are primary, 14,447 are lower secondary, 34,484 are basic, 8,416 are secondary, 3,596 are higher secondary and 8,711 are secondary (Grades 9-12) levels.
