Gaurika, who had set a new national record in heats of women's 100 m backstroke on Monday, bettered her national record of 100 m freestyle on Thursday. Gaurika completed the distance in 1 minute and 3.23 seconds in heats section. Earlier, she had clocked 1 minute and 3.91 seconds during the 20th National Open Swimming Championship in the capital.However, Gaurika finished 81st among 90 participants and was 10.01 second behind Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. Sarah completed the distance in 53.22 second to finish on top during heats.
Earlier, Sirish Gurung had set new national record in men's 100 m freestyle, while Sofia Shah set new national record in women's 200 m freestyle.
Swimming sensation Gaurika, who is hailed as an emerging swimmer, has set 14 national records within the last two years. Gaurika has national records on her name in the 200 m freestyle, 200 m backstroke, 100 m breaststroke, 200 m individual medley, 100 m freestyle, 100 m butterfly, 100 m backstroke, 50 m free style and 50 m backstroke.
Sofia, Sirish, Gaurika and Kiran Karki have taken part in the championship.
Gaurika has been living in London with her parents, while Sirish and Sofia are on special training for a year in Thailand for the Olympics. Nepali coach Ishwar Karki has been training only Kiran.
