Leaders from the fringe parties put forward such views during a meeting with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at the latter´s office in Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon. [break]The prime minister had invited the fringe parties to solicit their views on CA term extension.
The Supreme Court (SC) had on Friday said that the CA term would automatically expire after six months if the CA failed to promulgate the new constitution within the next six months.
"We suggested to the prime minister that it would be appropriate to extend the CA term for another six months as the peace process has taken a positive direction and the recent apex court verdict has reflected the peoples´ aspiration," Chairman of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashupati Shumsher Rana told media persons emerging from the meeting.
He said that leaders were divided over the apex court verdict as some of them argued that the SC should not interfere in political matter while others welcomed the verdict.
Leaders from the fringe parties expressed doubts over timely completion of the peace process stating that the Mohan Baidya faction of the UCPN (Maoist) is still obstructing the return of lands seized during the decade-long insurgency.
Chairman of Rashtriya Janamorcha Party Chitra Bahadur KC said that he suggested to the prime minister to be serious for the completion of the twin tasks of peace process and constitution writing.
Leaders from the fringe parties also expressed their dissatisfaction with the prime minister saying that they are always invited for talks only after the major political parties reach agreements.
