BANEPA, Feb 17: A child has taken seriously ill after taking medicines for elephantiasis in Methinkot-7.

Rajesh Sarki, 10, had taken the drugs from a local female health volunteer Sunday evening. "He continued vomiting throughout the night since 9 p.m.," his father Leela Bahadur said.

He had intestinal surgery at Dhulikhel Hospital on Tuesday after he couldn´t be treated at local health centers. Doctors said his intestine was punctured after getting entwined due to continuous vomiting.

Locals claim the incident occurred due to consumption of expired medicine but chief of District Public Health Office Dr Surendra Prasad Chaurasiya, who visited Methinkot Primary Health Center Wednesday, argued it was due to some other infection and not because of the medicine.
