According to sources, the constitutional body could not take the decision on registering the remaining parties as it is yet to verify signatures of voters which is mandatory for registration. “Verification of signatures submitted by new parties is under way and it will take a couple of days,” an EC official familiar with the development told Republica.

EC has given the old parties the same election symbols it had given them during the last CA polls. The political parties will appear in ballot box in the order they have been registered at the commission.

Altogether 75 political parties had registered for the 2008 CA elections and 54 parties had contested the polls.

EC had started registering political parties from April 30 and had stopped registration from May 30. As per the existing provisions, political parties must submit their respective manifestoes, statutes, regulations, flags and election symbols, among other things, while the new political parties must also submit the signatures of 10,000 voters for registration at EC.
