Although there are no obstructions from cadres of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) at Gauriphanta transit point, the depot used to supply only limited quantity of fuel earlier citing instructions from higher authorities.
The Dhangadhi chapter of NOC received 22 tankers laden with fuel on Tuesday and 19 on Wednesday. “For the first time since the trade blockade, we have been supplied the demanded amount of fuel from Banthara depot,” informed Sharad Poudel, the regional NOC officer. “If the supply continues this way, there won't be any fuel crisis in the far-western region within a week,” he added.
“The Indian side did not supply any petroleum products on the first few days of the start of the trade embargo. Later, they began to let in three petroleum-laden tankers per day through the Gauriphanta border. The number of tankers entering Nepal slowly increased later,” said Poudel. “Now we are being supplied the demanded quantity of fuel.”
The NOC office at Dhangadhi has sent 680,000 liters of fuel to Kathmandu so far.
