Democracy Day being observed

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The 58th National Democracy Day is being observed across the country Wednesday.



President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, in his message on the occasion, stressed on joint efforts to ensure lasting peace, rule of law and economic prosperity.



He also urged all to work together to draft new constitution acceptable to all within the stipulated time frame.



The president expressed the belief that the new constitution will consolidate the national unity by uniting Nepalese of different geographical, cultural, ethnic, religious, linguistic and class identities.



Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa, in their separate messages, have emphasized on the need of national unity and democratic principles.



Meanwhile, former king Gyanendra Shah also issued a message urging people to keep vigil on national integrity, sovereignty and protection of democracy.
