KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Dalit youth staged a protest in front of the Election Commission (EC) office, demanding Dalit representation in elections.
On Wednesday afternoon, A group of Dalit youth protested, claiming that the electoral system had not implemented proportional inclusion of Dalits.
Dalit activist Rem Rasaili said that they had to protest because the Unified Election Bill prepared by the Election Commission did not ensure proportional representation of Dalits.
The group of youth gathered at Bhrikutimandap, marched to the EC's office, and staged their protest.
They have demanded that the Unified Election Bill ensure proportional inclusion of Dalits, implement a proportional electoral system, and guarantee proportional representation of Dalits at the local level.
