KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached Mirabell Resort Hotel in Dhulikhel Saturday afternoon, apparently to prepare a political document for presentation at the Central Committee (CC) meeting slated for Tuesday.

Accompanied by his wife Sita and Son Prakash, among others, Dahal reached the resort at 2.30 pm. [break]

Dahal´s political document will propose a new strategy in the face of the party´s repeated failure in the earlier four rounds of prime ministerial voting.

According to party insiders, Dahal is likely to propose withdrawal of candidacies from the ongoing prime ministerial race and call for a consensus government either led by the Maoists or UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal.

"Otherwise, he will just push for the ongoing voting process, intensifying the polarization of the leftist, republican and nationalist forces on one side and status quoits on the other," said a Maoist leader close to Dahal.

The Maoist party remains divided between three factions led by Dahal, Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya and another vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

Bhattarai is for seeking a consensus candidate, from inside or outside the party, to lead the government, while Baidya doesn´t believe that the current peace process will not help the party achieve the communist goals.

"The current election process will lead the party nowhere. So we must withdraw the candidacies and seek consensus," said a leader close to Bhattarai.

According to him, Bhattarai may even present a separate political document if Dahal´s strategy doesn´t impress him. "But we will first see Dahal´s document," said the leader.

It is not yet sure whether Baidya will throw his weight behind Bhattarai or Dahal.
