Vice Chancellor Madhav Sharma, during a meeting on Friday, instructed chiefs of Tri Chandra, Patan Samyukta and Nepal Law campuses to implement TU´s fee-hike decision at any cost.[break] The campus chiefs also expressed commitment to charge all students as per the new fee structure. The three campuses will forward the students´ forms to the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) only after the students pay extra money.
TU also requested chiefs of its all 10 constituent campuses -- who resigned en masse on Tuesday protesting student unions´ excesses -- to withdraw their resignation.
"One of our two demands has been addressed," Gopal Chandra Pokharel, chief of Ratna Rajya Campus, who also quit, told Republica. "But TU is yet to ensure our second demand."
They had sought uniformity in fee structures of all 13 constituent campuses in the valley and security from student unions.
"We will revoke our decision only after TU ensures our security," Pokharel said, adding, "We refuse to continue with silently tolerating student unions´ verbal abuses and misconducts."
TU says the new fee structure is applicable to all students including even those who were enrolled in its constituent campuses even before the hike-decision. But student unions argue that the new fee structure should not be applicable to those students who were enrolled prior to the decision.
As per the new structure, students at Bachelor and Masters Levels have to pay monthly fees of Rs 250 and Rs 350 respectively. Prior the fee hike-decision, they were paying just Rs 50 and Rs 60.
