In Nepal, Bhutanese refugees in Jhapa and Morang are observing the day on Monday, by organizing several programs.[break]
Talking to RSS on the occasion of World Refugee Day, Bhutanese Refugee leader Teknath Rijal said all refugees should be repatriated without any discrimination and should be freed from fear and danger to life and liberty.
This day shouldn’t be merely limited in informal programs, but the day has to be utilized as an opportunity to work for the rights of refugees, he said.
The UN has been celebrating Refugee Day every year on June 20 since 2001. More than 50 million people in the world have been living the life of refugees and around 400 million population has been living an uncertain life, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Earlier before the start of third country resettlement program, nearly 100,000 Bhutanese refugees were living in eastern Nepal.
