Issuing a monthly food security bulletin, the World Food Program (WFP) Nepal stated on Wednesday that several areas of hills and mountains of the mid and far-west regions were highly or moderately food-insecure. The bulletin was based on field study in 47 districts across the country.
The food agency attributed worsening food security in those areas to remoteness, marginal agriculture land, and poor to moderate summer crop production, as well as high food prices and limited income of local people.
The food security situation will be worsened in mid and far-western hills and mountain districts if sufficient rain does not occur in February, said a UN Agency.
The WFP said some 40,000 peoples in flood affected areas of the Western Tarai are still food-insecure and need support for the rehabilitation for their livelihood.
