Muslim community’s second biggest festival-Eid-Ul-Ad being observed today

KATHMANDU, July 21: The second biggest festival of the Muslim community, Eid-Ul-Ad is being observed today.

The festival is being celebrated in mosques across the country. The festival is observed on the 70th day of Eid-ul-fitr or Ramadan.

According to the Islamic calendar, the festival is celebrated on the 12th day of the 12th month of Dil Hijja, said Mansur Hussain, Secretary of the Nepali Jame Masjid. On this day, Muslims bathe in the morning and go to a nearby mosque or eidgah to offer collective prayers. After the prayers, good wishes are exchanged by hugging each other.

On this occasion, crowds of Muslims flock to mosques and eidgahs across the country, including the Nepali Jame Mosque and Kashmiri Mosque at Durbar Marg.

As the Coronavirus could spread, the Muslim Commission and other bodies have issued a statement urging people to celebrate Bakar Eid safely at home this year.

According to the former chairman of the National Muslim Commission, Nirdosh Ali, the festival was launched to commemorate the sacrifice of Abraham’s son Ishmael (peace be upon him) by the command of Allah 1439 years ago.
