KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The police are implementing a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals, during which many people leave the Kathmandu Valley to visit their ancestral homes. To address the surge in criminal activities such as ticket fraud, black marketing of food, and theft during this period, security forces across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur are preparing to mobilize thousands of personnel.

In Kathmandu, approximately 5,000 officers will be deployed through 14 police circles to monitor and control crime during the festive season. The plan includes analyzing previous years’ crime trends to anticipate potential incidents. Similarly, Bhaktapur police are revising their security measures to curb activities such as theft, robbery, and gambling.

Lalitpur has planned to station police personnel at 183 locations across the district, mobilizing over 3,000 officers daily. In addition to crime control, special arrangements are being  made to manage the influx of VIPs visiting religious sites during the festival.

To further ensure safety, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office is coordinating efforts across all three districts and is expected to deploy a total of 10,000 to 12,000 officers throughout the valley. Patrols will be increased, and undercover officers will monitor buses to prevent black market activities. Additionally, passenger help desks will be set up at nearly two dozen locations in Kathmandu to address issues like ticket fraud and ensure smoother travel.
