206 Nepalis die of coronavirus across the globe as of Saturday evening

KATHMANDU, July 26: As of Saturday evening, 206 Nepalis living in various countries around the world including Nepal have lost their lives due to coronavirus, the Non-resident Nepali Association (NRNA), said.

According to the NRNA, one more Nepali national living in the United Kingdom succumbed to the coronavirus infection in the past one week.

"With this, the number of Nepali nationals dying of coronavirus across the world has reached 206," the NRNA stated in its COVID-19 weekly update on Sunday.

As of today, 45 Nepali nationals have succumbed to COVID-19 in Nepal. Likewise, 161 Nepali nationals living in various countries around the world lost their lives due to coronavirus since the coronavirus emerged late last year, according to the NRNA.

Of the total 31,150 Nepalis who tested positive for coronavirus in 36 countries including Nepal, 29,243 have recovered as of today. As of Saturday evening, Nepal's COVID-19 tally soared to 18,483.

The NRNA said that 34,830 Nepali nationals were brought back home from 25 various countries around the world while 94 dead bodies of Nepali nationals who lost their lives in various countries remain stranded for months. It is learnt that their bodies are awaiting repatriation due to the ongoing travel restrictions and lockdown owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the past week, 216 dead bodies of Nepali nationals who lost their lives in various countries were repatriated.

The NRNA has been gathering details on the situation of Nepalis during the pandemic in collaboration with Nepali health workers, Nepali diplomatic missions, Nepali organizations, NRNA chapters and local organizations based in the COVID-19 affected countries.
